MATERIALS:

Travel or Sample bottles,  1 to 1-1/2" diameter Styrofoam Balls,  ELMER'S GLUE or Crafter's Glue,  Newspaper,  Copy or Typing paper,  Cut out colored magazine section,  24 guage wire,  Awl.

BODY BASE:

1.  Take caps off, clean the bottles, let them dry.  Put the cap back on (Fig. 1B). Bottle "B"      has a nice shape for the neck. 2.  Use Styrofoam for the head.  Push the bottle neck on to the styrofoam while twisting      inward. (Fig.2-A and B) 3.  Make the head shape.  Press styrofoam between thumb and forefingers until you achieve      a head shape. (Fig. 2-C)

4.  I use hand stripped, 1/2" wide or less newspaper, paper towel, typing or copy paper and Washi paper. 5.  Dip a strip in a 50% glue / 50% water mix, wipe excess glue with thumb and forefingers. (Fig.4) 6.  Smaller pieces will be easier to paste down on the neck and head. (Fig. 5)

7.  In order to avoid pieces sticking on your hands, use a damp cloth towel. (Fig. 6) 8.  Now that the BASE is completed, let it dry. (Fig. 7)

1.  Collect colored sections from magazines.  Separate them by color groups. (Fig. 8) 2.  Crumble them (Fig. 9) first, then flatten them out. (Fig. 10) 3.  Hand tear slightly larger than your thumbnail, paste on the body. (Fig.11) 4.  This finished stage can be the final one, if you like very simple figurines.  If so, varnish them      with KRYLON spray varnish or MOD PODGE. (Fig. 12)

HAIR 1:

1.  Cut 8 - 10 pieces of 24 guage wire 3 to 3-1/2" long. (Fig. 13) 2.  Wrap around the hand cut strips (Washi paper or Crepe paper) to the wire. (Fig.14) 3.  Use knitting needle (Fig 15) or bend them as you like. (Fig. 16)

HAIR 2:

Use 1" wide strips, braiding them first, cut about 1" + - long, gather one end, apply glue, make a pointed shape while rolling between your thumb and forefingers, then let it dry. (Fig.17-B)

Use about 1" x 1-1/4" hand cut Washi paper.  Gather one side , apply glue on the end, roll between your thumb and forefingers, let them dry. (Fig.17-A)

HAIR 3:

HAIR ASSEMBLY:

1.  Make a line on the top of the head with marker. (Fig. 19-A) 2.  Puncture holes with an awl and space about 3/8" apart. (Fig.19-B) 3.  Dab glue on the tip of hair pieces, place into the holes, let them dry.
